At BeLoved Hospice, innovation isn’t about technology for its own sake. It’s about deepening comfort - physically, emotionally, and spiritually - when it matters most. True progress begins with listening, and everything we offer grows from the real needs of patients and families across Oregon.
One way we bring more comfort and less worry into hospice care is through the use of Continuous Ambulatory Delivery Device (CADD) pumps. While still uncommon in most home-based hospice settings, these small, wearable devices are helping us offer seamless, uninterrupted relief.
A CADD pump is a small, quiet device designed to deliver medication steadily throughout the day and night. About the size of a deck of cards, it can be tucked into a pocket or carried discreetly in a pouch, allowing patients to move freely without interruption.
The pumps work quietly in the background - no need for frequent dosing, no constant reminders, no disruptions to meaningful moments. It gently provides consistent relief, helping manage symptoms without requiring patients or families to continually adjust care.
For families, CADD pumps bring peace of mind, offering fewer medical tasks and more time for presence, conversation, and simply being together. For patients, they offer something priceless: the ability to rest, breathe easier, and stay comfortable without the worry of when the next dose is coming.
At BeLoved Hospice, we see the CADD pump not just as a medical device, but as a tool that returns a sense of normalcy, dignity, and peace during one of life’s most sacred times.
At the end of life, comfort becomes the foundation for everything else. Yet managing pain can be challenging. A patient may no longer be able to swallow pills, or they may struggle to express what they need. Families often carry the heavy burden of medication schedules, wondering if their loved one is receiving enough relief.
CADD pumps take away that uncertainty. With steady, programmed medication delivery, patients stay more comfortable—and families can shift from tasks to presence. Our hospice nurses have seen it firsthand: how a simple device can restore calm, helping the whole room breathe a little easier.
While CADD pumps are widely used in hospitals and oncology care, they are still rare in home-based hospice. At BeLoved, we recognized their potential—and knew we could do better. That’s why we made CADD pumps part of our standard of care.
Because every hour, every breath, and every small moment matters. Comfort should never be out of reach.
When pain is managed, everything changes. Patients find rest. Families find peace. The space around them shifts from urgency to connection.
This is what we strive for every day at BeLoved Hospice: a care experience that honors the whole person, not just their symptoms.
The CADD pump is one small example of how we’re reimagining hospice care. Our model blends clinical excellence with whole-person support—including integrative therapies like cannabinoid, ketamine, and psilocybin-assisted options (where appropriate and legal in Oregon), creative modalities like massage, music therapy, and legacy storytelling, and comprehensive family care that extends from education through long-term grief support.
Above all, our approach is rooted in dignity, inclusivity, and deep respect for each person’s identity, culture, and beliefs.
At BeLoved Hospice, we don’t pursue change for novelty. We pursue it for love—love for the people we serve, and love for the sacredness of their journeys. Every innovation is an extension of our commitment to presence, dignity, and deep human connection.
Real innovation doesn’t come from machines or products—it comes from slowing down, listening closely, and asking what might bring just a little more peace, comfort, or clarity to someone’s day.
