Comprehensive Cardiac Hospice Care

Many cardiac patients in hospice programs experience a high incidence of symptom burden with dyspnea, edema, pain, depression, and fatigue, all of which become very acute in the terminal phases of the disease progression. Historically, because of these symptoms, many cardiac patients on hospice find themselves back in the hospital or ED for assistance with the management of these distressing symptoms.

In addition, numerous cardiac patients do not qualify for traditional hospice programs because of the use of high-dose diuretics, intravenous diuretic treatments, or active medical devices, including implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and left ventricle assist devices. There are also difficulties with hospice qualification and proper management due to the acuity of the patient's medical plan of care or device management. With this unique Portland area cardiac program, BeLoved Hospice can admit complex cardiac patients with the understanding that the patient's family or caregivers will receive education on how to help the team manage infusion pumps and assist with the patient's care.

The clinical team at BeLoved Hospice is provided with extensive training to enhance their ability to confidently provide care for heart failure patients as well as expand awareness of the patient's conditions, co-morbidities, and symptoms. With proper cardiac symptom management, our cardiac patients can prosper and enjoy an enhanced quality of life.
