Our skilled hospice nurses provide a steady, compassionate presence as we hold space for dignity, comfort, and patient care.
Death is one of the last taboos in Western culture. Very few people talk about it intimately or even plan for it. Members of BeLoved Hospice’s nursing team understand that with the right knowledge and support, death doesn’t have to be something to fear.
Our hospice nurses show up with presence, skill, and belief that the end of life can be radically different when patients receive the right care and support. With that in mind, our nurses provide a steady, calming force as we guide patients and families through uncertainty, pain relief, and peace.
When hospice moves fast, a nurse must have a hospice heart: to be willing to step in, ask questions, and embrace every moment for what it truly is. Our hospice nurses show up as medical professionals and anchors during these times. We are the people others look to for reassurance, clarity, and comfort. As we manage pain and ease symptoms, we help families understand what’s happening. Doing so replaces fear with knowledge, and panic with presence.
Throughout the hospice experience, our nurses thrive as fulcrums of care, balancing the needs of patients, families, and other members of our care teams. We don’t wait for things to become overwhelming. We anticipate needs, adjust care plans, and create a steady rhythm of support.
When a crisis involves escalating symptoms, our nurses continue to hold space for everyone. We enter into stressful situations, assess what’s happening at the root, collaborate with physicians, and implement the most responsive care.
Sometimes, patients need a higher level of care, especially during moments when they are actively dying, or experiencing uncontrollable pain. Our Portland-based nursing team provides continuous care in these situations, with ongoing support to ensure comfort and dignity over hours or even days. Beyond following or adjusting care plans in that situation, it’s also about presence. We want patients and families to know they are never alone in these moments.
